Standard Audio Cassettes

Introduced in 1964 by Philips, the audio cassette originally was designed for dictation.
Did you know... The audio cassette went on to become a popular medium during the late 1970s due to the fact that it was extremely portable and it was re-recordable. During the 1980s, the cassette's popularity expanded further due to pocket recorders (Sony's Walkman) that were not much larger than the cassette itself. The popularity of the audio cassettes peaked in the late 1980s and sharply declined with the introduction of Compact Discs in the early 1990s.
